Answer :

There are two types of retractable awnings:

1) Awnings with Diagonal or Vertical Support Arms are a traditional design.  It comes with vertical legs that are supported on the ground or diagonal poles that are mounted lower on the ground.

2) Awnings with Strong "Lateral" Arms are a more modern design.  Without legs or poles, these awnings allow walking space underneath the awning.

Advaning currently only manufactures Awnings with Strong "Lateral" Arms.

Answer :

A method to improve corrosion resistance is to apply silicone sealant to specific points of the awning.  You can find a PDF of the instructions here.

Answer :

Advaning electric awnings are built with Dooya motors which is a sub-brand under Somfy Group, a world leader in automatic control. All motors are CE approved to meet the safety standards. Please see the link for Dooya introduction. (Click Here)

Answer :

Due to variables such as awning size, awning projection, installation type, weather conditions and general care / maintenance Advaning does not have a wind rating that can be applied to every situation. Our retractable awnings are manufactured to the highest of standards and with top quality materials, they are made to last for many years. Advaning recommends customers to exercise caution whenever wind or windy conditions are in the forecast. Advaning recommends to keep any retractable awning closed if/when any wind gusts exceed 7 knots or 8 MPH.

Answer :

Acrylic fabric offers an aesthetic softness and feel all its own. High quality acrylics are very resistant to UV light, mildew and water.  The properties of Acrylic fabric allow it to be highly breathable, so hot air and moisture will not be trapped.  Acrylic fabric is extremely water repellent.

The Advaning L (Luxury) Series comes with European 100% solution dyed (Higher Quality) Acrylic fabric.  This means that color pigments are added to the Acrylic fibers while the fibers are in a semi-liquid state.  As a result, the color becomes an integral part of the fiber, and won't wash out.

Answer :

The retractable awning is designed to provide protection from the sun and is not intended for rain, snow or extreme wind. The fabric is water resistant, but we strongly recommend closing the awning when there is rain, snow, or wind.

Answer :

Advaning's breathable acrylic canopy materials are water resistant. This allows hot air and moisture escape. Water and even various oils can be cleaned away with relative ease. However, its porous nature does not allow it to be impervious to water penetration.

Waterproof fabrics such as vinyl or polyester are waterproof. They effectively block water from penetrating the material from either above or below.

Although Waterproof can be a good feature, Advaning chose a water resistant “breathable” solution in order to provide a cooler, more comfortable outdoor product. Hot air and humidity is not trapped under the awning with you. It releases through the fabric back into the atmosphere and away from your airspace.

Answer :

Yes, regular cleaning with mild soap and water using a low pressure hose will extend the life of the fabric and prevent the formation of mildew. Remove the dust from the dry awning fabric by use of a damp cloth or chamois.

Be sure that the awning is completely dry before retracting back into its hood.

In case of rain or snow, or wind, it is best to keep the awning closed. Once the weather turns dry, extend out the awning canopy and allow it to dry properly.

Answer :

All Advaning retractable awnings come with removable valance.

Answer :

Please follow our measuring guide to determine the mounting locations of your brackets as described in the manual. The suggested height above the ground should be at 8~10 feet high. Only install the awning onto a solid structure attached directly to the wall studs or concrete beams.

Answer :

When properly mounted onto the wooden frame or other major support structure of a home, the awning should not exhibit any stress issues. However, a professional should always be consulted in order to make sure your installation complies with building codes.

Answer :

If you uninstall or remove the awning mounts, small visible holes will remain from the mounting bolts. No substantial modifications should be needed on the common home wall but a professional should still be consulted for a more definitive answer.

Answer :

The pitch of the awning can be easily adjusted by using the crank and the Easy Pitch™ system. A complete description on how to adjust your awning can be found in the owner's manual that came with your awning.

Answer :

The lateral arms will be bent and lock at the elbow when fully extended. This is a normal part of the frame design. They are designed to have a slight bend in the arms, forcing them straight may damage the awning.

Answer :

If ever your awning loses power, it can still be manually operated using a hand crank.

Answer :

Each awning unit comes with a hand crank. Its simple operation allows a single user to open or close the canopy by means of the way that he or she operates the hand crank. Please reference the user’s manual for details.

Answer :

What does Easy Pitch™ mean?
Easy Pitch™ allows you to easily adjust awning's front bar pitch in just 1 step. Turning the loop on Easy Pitch™ mechanism will adjust the canopy’s pitch to a higher or lower angle depending on the direction that the manual crank handle is turned.

Why Easy-Pitch?
Advaning’s safe and simple Easy Pitch™ design reduces a complex, 12-step process of adjusting your awning’s canopy pitch into one easy step. The slope of your canopy may need to be changed regularly to deal with the sun’s position at various times of day. For this reason alone, the process should be swift and simple. Other brands offer an adjustable pitch in a more complicated multi-step process that typically involves the use of a ladder and small hand tools.

Going up ladders with small hand tools to make these necessary adjustments is potentially hazardous, especially to people with disabilities. The Easy Pitch™ mechanism allows you to stay on the ground and out of harm’s way. All that is required is to use the hand crank that is included with the awning. Simply twist right or left to achieve the desired angle of pitch and you’re all set.

Answer :

All Advaning awnings can be stopped at any projection length by stopping the crank or pressing the ‘pause’ button on the remote control for electric models.  The electric awnings can also be used manually in case of power failure.  Manual operation can also be applied by simply first pressing the stop button or unplugging the awning before using hand crank to unfurl the awning fabric.

Answer :

Advaning's Awnings come with a set of lag screws and a set of expansion bolts.  With these, the awning has the capacity to be mounted to most structure substrates.  While the lag screws allows for most wood substrate installations, the expansion bolts provides the installation capability for most masonry substrates.

Unfortunately, you would need additional hardware when mounting to metal studs, compressed woods, or hollow bricks / blocks.

It is always recommended that awning owners unfamiliar with their building structure contact a local professional installer.

Answer :

No additional electrical work is needed to use Advaning's awnings.  The electric models all come with a standard 3-prong plug.

Answer :

In order to maximize the operational lifespan of  this or any other brand of awning, basic maintenance should be practiced.  Advaning products are crafted to withstand the elements.  To achieve optimal performance, at the beginning and at the end of the outdoor season, hose off the awning fabric and wipe down the framework with a soft cloth. Please allow the fabric to fully dry before retracting.

Use a dry silicone spray lubricant on the axle of the roller tube, the ends of the roller tube, and on the sides opposite to the motor gear.  Be sure to avoid spraying lubricant onto the canvas.

Lubricant application is normally not needed more than once a year.  If, however, the mechanism develops a squeak, it’s just a sign that the lubricant is worn away and additional lubricant should be applied.

Your awning contains powder-coating steel and aluminum, and can last for many years.  It is important to inspect the fasteners, connections and the condition of the metal components regularly.
